Last week Sunday we brought Herm and Laurie back to the Albuquerque airport and said good-by. It was wonderful to have them out here--we really enjoyed traveling around and seeing some great sights together.
This week we've been working at Rehoboth Christian School. Carrie is spending most of her time helping out in the 4th and 6th grade classrooms, doing some tutoring and especially helping kids with stories they're writing. There's a company that has a school program where they'll publish a hardcover copy of each kid's story and illustrations--the family gets one copy free and then can buy extras. Rehoboth has done this several times before and the kids are really excited about doing it. Len has been mostly working with the school counselor, doing some academic counseling. He also got involved this week when a student, who was in 7th grade here last year, was killed. He talked to the middle-schoolers at chapel about the grief process and also did some one-on-one counseling.
The computer system at Rehoboth has been down all week. A little frustrating for us, but way frustrating for the teachers and administrators at the school. We've been checking emails by sitting in the parking lot at the Best Western and connecting with their wireless (thanks to brother-in-law Denny for that little trick). This morning, we're at the public library, and that makes it easier to update our blog and send out emails. Hopefully the system will be back up early next week.
Len is fond of saying when you're retired you don't get a day off, but there was no school Tuesday, so we did get a day off! We biked about 20 miles on back roads and 2-tracks, winding between the rock buttes and scrub brush. We'll get back out this afternoon too. The weather here is fabulous--Gallup is at 6500 feet so the nights are cold, mostly just below freezing, but days are sunny and bright with temps in the mid 60's--perfect for biking and hiking.
