Birding in Mindo

We've just had a spectacular week of birding in the Mindo area of Ecuador.  We saw over 200 species of birds--several of them very rare!  We felt a little out of our league with the other birders, but like most birders, they didn't seem to mind helping us along.  Had one quite rainy day, otherwise the weather was pretty cooperative.  The daily schedule was hectic, and we both were sick with stomach bugs, so we're spending our last few days in Quito being more relaxed.  We fly home Tuesday, arriving late at night.  Very excited to see family and friends again.

Sword-billed hummingbird--my favorite sighting

Violet-tailed sylph

Birders in the rain--very nerdy

Other fauna--a very tiny frog

and a very large moth
