If staying very busy is a virtue we have become very sinful. The days are drifting by without much activity on our parts. Reading, doing crossword puzzles and our daily 2 1/2 mile round trip to the internet are our activities as the days drift by. The heat at time is oppressive, especially when the "trade winds" die down. Cable TV brings us primary results and of course the delight of college basketball.
I am reading a non-fiction book called Galileo's Daughter which tells the interesting story of Galileo's struggles with the Church. The book is instructive in how the Church can go wrong when it reads the Bible as a science book. The Church was so sure that the Bible requires people to believe the sun goes around the earth that it brought great harm and even death to people who questioned that assumption.
Carrie is reading "This Is My Best- Great Authors Share Their Favorite Work." It is a compilation of over 50 authors from their own work and includes fiction, non-fiction, poetry, even cartoons. While some of the choices are from old favorites (Barbara Kingsolver, PD James, Joyce Carol Oates), others have added to our lists of books to read in the future.

I just read a great book by James McBride "Song Yet Sung". It is about the secret code used by people of the Underground Railroad pre Civil War. It's waiting for you when you get back.
