On Tuesday the 2 of us went to Chicago for a few days for the Festival of Maps at the Field Museum and other sites around town. Here's the link if you want to check it out for yourself; it has photos and descriptions of each of the maps in the Field Museum exhibit:

The exhibit included maps ranging from a clay tablet from 1300BC to modern satellite images There were pilgrim routes from the Middle Ages, US highway maps from the early 1900s, Buddhist world maps from the 1700s, surveys done by Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson, and George Washington, imaginary maps (Treasure Island, the 100-acre woods, Middle Earth), Asian trade routes, and European navigation charts. One of our favorites was a chart made from twigs and string representing ocean current charts for the Marshall Islands. Amazing.
Chris's girlfriend Allyson arrived today from her visit to Israel--somewhat delayed by the wintry weather but finally here safely. And Julie and Dave just called to say they're on their way home from Detroit and can they stay overnight. So our nest is blessedly full!
