New York

Last week was another busy week for the Blauws—no rest for the wicked as they say. We left Monday morning early for New York City. The main reason for going was a Board meeting--we represent CRWRC on the board of the New York City Disaster Interfaith—but we took advantage of the opportunity to spend a few extra days in the city.

It was a great museum week. We went to The Cloisters, which is “the branch of the Metropolitan Museum devoted to the art and architecture of medieval Europe. Located on four acres overlooking the Hudson River in northern Manhattan's Fort Tryon Park, the building incorporates elements from five medieval French cloisters…. (with) approximately five thousand works of art from medieval Europe” (quoted from The Cloisters website.) We also visited the Met, MOMA (the Museum of Modern Art), the International Center of Photography and the J. Pierpont Morgan Library & Museum.

Among the most well known pieces at the Cloisters are the unicorn tapestries. (This image is also taken from their website. ) The cloister areas included cloister gardens--beautiful!

Thursday it was not as hot, and we walked south to St. Paul’s Chapel and Ground Zero—very moving. We also took the Staten Island ferry out and back and walked partway across the Brooklyn Bridge.

Today we’re leaving for Eagle Pass Texas for 10 days—doing a Needs Assessment survey for the local interfaith related to a tornado they had last April.
