Gulfport

We arrived at Gulfport yesterday pm and are staying at a house that was donated to CRWRC for the use of volunteers. The main resident is Roland Bteyn, who's been volunteering for CRWRC for many years. He's been here since last October and is stayng till May, working for CRWRC in community development and with the Partners Worldwide/CRWRC Partnership on the Gulf Business Response Inititiave, which is what Carrie will be involved with.
Yesterday's highlight: a 15 mile bike ride on the Longleaf Trace--a 40 mile rail-trail conversion. It's a beautiful pathway. It starts in Hattiesburg on the edge of the Univ of Southern Mississippi campus and runs NW through woodlands and wetlands and small towns. We only did a small section because our 15 miles were up and back, but since our next 2 assignments are right on the NW terminus, we should be able to do the whole trail in stages.
