We are in Jackson, Mississippi, the capital city. Jackson was one of the cities that Sherman destroyed during the civil war. For a while it was known as Chimneyville because of the way he torched it. We are writing from the Jackson MS Public Library, named in honor of Eudora Welty, one of our favorite southern writers.
Left on Sunday and drove through a lot of rain to our son Chris' place in St Louis. We wen
t out to a great Thai restaurant with him for birthday celebrations, followed by a nightcap at Absolutely Goosed, whihc you might guess from the name is a martini bar. The last two days have been sunny, and getting warmer every day. We spent our first night in our camper at a state park in Mississippi--with only one other camper. A cold night, wouldn't have done it in our tent, but when you have a camper and a heater it works. Today we drove down the pastoral Natchez Trace Parkway to Jackson. Tonight we hope to camp in Gulf Port, MS. The weather calls for temps in the mid 70's.
