Ayuthayya

We've spent the last few days here, in the city that was the capital of Thailand from 1350 to 1767. The city's main appeal are the temple ruins. We visited 2 of them our first day here, thinking that would be plenty. But we got hooked, spent 2 extra days and saw about 10 temples total. Although there are many similar features, each one is magnificent. One thing that amazes us is how even the most broken down Buddha image is revered with offerings and saffron wraps. The other is how the temples have just hundreds of Buddha images, some of them up to 50' tall!

We rented motorbikes again to get around. This time we had one spill, but fortunately were only going about 2 miles per hour when it happened so escaped with nothing more than very slight knee and toe scrapes. We are starting to feel more confident on the bike and like getting around this way. Especially with temps pushng 90+, it beats walking or cycling.

Tonight we're taking the night train north to Chiang Mai. More photos in the next day or 2.
