Back Home Again

After three months of traveling, much of it in national parks and wildlife preserves, we are awed by what a beautiful, incredibly diverse, fascinating world our God has made. We were overwhelmed with how blessed we are to have had this experience.

Looking back, these are some of the highlights that stand out in our minds:
  • The Blauwkamp family get-together in Tennessee
  • Biking the Katy trail
  • The Utah Canyon Country with its clear skies and continuously jaw dropping scenery
  • The unique beauty of Antelope Canyon
  • Experiencing and appreciating the Ancestral Pueblo Culture at places like Chaco Culture, Bandelier, and Canyon de Chelly
  • A week spent with our good friends Herm & Laurie
  • The entire Rehoboth experience--the kids and staff were awesome, we enjoyed the work we did, and we had a great time getting to know Ina & Warren Burmeister better
  • Tens of thousands of birds at Bosque del Apache
  • Wild caving at Carlsbad Cavern
  • Learning about the stars at MacDonald Observatory
  • Camping in Big Bend N.P., even with the javelinas
  • Relaxing on the beach on South Padre Island

Summary of numbers
We drove 11,127 miles, biked about 500 miles, and hiked about 100 miles, all without losing weight. Len saw 106 birds and Carrie 54 birds which we had not seen before (called lifers).

And for you accountants, lodging (other than camping) consumed 32% of our budget, restaurant eating 21%, gas 13%, groceries 10%, fees and admissions 8%, and camping 2%.

And now we're eagerly looking forward to our next adventure in SE Asia. Stay tuned.
